In 1992 four friends were enjoying themselves at the New Forest Folk Club in New Milton, Hampshire. Sitting around the table listnening to the music and having a few beers, one said "we should have a go!". One of the four, John, said "Well, if we did this together at least there would be safety in numbers!"

The band was born. Four became three, but Steve West, John Lock and Tony Custance started touring the local folk clubs untill Tony left and in came Nigel Couzins. Safety in Numbers recorded their first CD "Contraband" in 1995 which contained traditional and self penned songs. Local history was strongly represented in the songs and the CD received a warm review in the folk magazine "Folk On Tap" and air play on the local radio stations and in Norway!

Nigel left and Adam Bowden Joined and Safety in Numbers continued to appear in local clubs.

In 1999, Safety in Numbers recorded "Heroes and Dreamers".

Safety in Numbers stopped playing live due to work and other commitments but in 2001 they recorded a CD called "Aclectric" with Scott Miguel on electric guitar. The CD marked a shift away from folk and the title itself gives a clue: a play on the words acoustic and electric and the word of the moment in the music press, "eclectic".

After a 3 year break, Safety in numbers re-emerged but now as a four piece rock band with drummer Rob Powell-Thomas! This incarnation of the band lasted a happy two years and produced 2 Cd's but the revitalised world of contemporary acoustic was beckoning.

Safety in Numbers are once again a trio. Steve, Adam and Scott are touring again with a new CD "Love and Loss". Who knows, we may even be able to tempt John out of retirement!!!!!!!!!
